Dr. Dolores Hoyt, Librarian Emerita and former associate dean for the University Library, was presented with an IUPUI 50th Anniversary Chancellor’s Medallion by Chancellor Nasser H. Paydar during the Office of International Affairs 30th anniversary celebration on February 20, 2019, in recognition her support excellence in education at IUPUI, especially in the area of German American studies and German language and culture.
Dr. Hoyt joined IUPUI in 1977 as an assistant librarian and was named associate dean in 2001, a position she held until her retirement in 2007. During her 30-year career, she was instrumental in organizing a collection of papers and books from the Indianapolis German American Societies, which served as the foundation for the establishment of the Indiana German Heritage Society in 1984.
Together with her husband Dr. Giles Hoyt, as well as Drs. Eberhard and Ruth Reichmann, she endowed the Hoyt-Reichmann Faculty Chair in German American Studies and German Language and Culture, a result of the colleagues’ shared, lifelong dedication to developing the study of German language and culture and German-Americana within IUPUI and across Indiana.
Drs. Dolores and Giles Hoyt also established the Giles and Dolores Hoyt Student Opportunity Fund to benefit University Libraries student workers, with a preference given to those working with the German-Americana Collections.
