On January 24, 2019, Sharon Holland, Director of Alumni and Special Programs, received the IUPUI 50th Anniversary Chancellor’s Medallion by Chancellor Nasser H. Paydar. The award recognizes Holland’s service to higher education and to the IUPUI campus through her significant contributions to student engagement, alumni relations, and IUPUI Athletics. This special anniversary award also honors the role Holland has played in the 50 years of impact IUPUI has had on a local, national, and global scale.
Holland began her 47-year career at IUPUI in 1971 in the School of Dentistry. In 1973, she moved to the IUPUI Office of Alumni Relations where she has held a position since. Prior to the schools joining to form the School of Health & Human Sciences, Holland worked directly with the School of Physical Education and Tourism Management and the School Health and Rehabilitation Sciences on their respective alumni programs. For nearly 30 years, Holland was instrumental in the planning and execution of the university commencement program.
Holland serves as liaison to IUPUI Athletics. She is executive secretary of the Jaguars Letter Club, the alumni organization for IUPUI athletics, and is responsible for the IUPUI Athletics Hall of Fame recognition program. She serves as a member of the IUPUI Athletics Advisory Committee and also is a member of the Jaguars Athletics Club board of directors.
