Project Description
We can promote the success of our students by bridging existing resources for first-generation, low-income, and other underserved populations with career education efforts to create a seamless pipeline of resources that are more inclusive, culturally responsive, and accessible from a student's first day on campus through graduation and beyond. We provided and will continue to support professional development for faculty and staff around mentoring and guiding students on managing identities and expectations; creating access to new networks in their chosen professions; making professional workplace rules more clear and transparent; increasing access to paid experiences; creating opportunities to practice communicating who they are and the strengths they bring to a job; and improving access to career resources and practical career development needs such as a professional clothing closet, mock interviews, and resume reviews. During the project year, we also held the first of what is now an annual networking event for students, completed the first intergroup dialogue on social class, and completed a needs assessment for Paws' Closet, which opened in October 2018.
