Project Description
Faculty in the School of Liberal Arts will design, create, and curate materials to be included in an open educational resource (OER) pressbook for use in W131-Reading, Writing and Inquiry, replacing costly textbooks currently used by students for this first-year composition course. A pilot pressbook will be used in Fall 2023 semester with adoption in all sections of W131 by Fall of 2024. Research on the use of OERs in general education courses has shown that they can dramatically improve student success, particularly for students who are underrepresented. By reducing the financial barrier for students taking W131, the pressbook will create a more equitable and inclusive campus.
