Dear Campus Community,
This evening we received news about the Derek Chauvin jury decision, which will no doubt spark reactions across the country, including in downtown Indianapolis. Over the past two weeks, the trial has extended and amplified the trauma of George Floyd's death last May even as the violence against Black Americans continues. This verdict brings an element of closure to a very difficult chapter in the life of our nation.
As we work through our reactions, the university is here to support our community. To this end, we have gathered resources on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion website that may prove useful.
This is a time that our campus must remain inclusive and welcoming, recognizing, and respecting people of all backgrounds and experiences. At IUPUI, we remain unwavering in our commitment to ensuring a safe and civil environment for faculty, staff, and students, and we must confront the destructive and persistent pandemic of racism. To do this, we must join hands with one another and ensure that we are actively and intentionally antiracist. This is our pathway to change. This is our bridge to the future.
Take care and stay well,
Nasser H. Paydar
