Dear IUPUI students and colleagues:
This morning, the Supreme Court stood up on behalf of Dreamers in their five to four decision rejecting the Trump administration's attempt to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
This decision will enable IUPUI to continue to uphold our core values as a diverse and inclusive institution of higher learning. It also reinforces our ability to provide an education enriched by a multiplicity of perspectives, opening doors of educational opportunity to as many people as possible.
I am particularly pleased that the doors of educational opportunity will remain open for our DACA students, a vital part of our campus and the broader community. In our increasingly global society, the most diverse and inclusive educational environments better prepare all of our students to face challenges that span our globe and require collaborative and well-informed solutions. The presence of DACA students and other diverse student populations at IUPUI and at universities across the country transforms and strengthens higher education as a whole.
At a time when we are all facing great challenges in our society, we need the strongest and most resilient system of higher education. The Supreme Court's decision is a step towards maintaining and improving one of the best systems of higher education in the world.
Sincerely,
Nasser H. Paydar
Chancellor
