Dear Friends and Colleagues:
I feel compelled to write by the violence our nation has experienced over the past month. On behalf of the IUPUI campus, I want to express my condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in those acts of violence.
As the stories unfold in Orlando, Baton Rouge, Minneapolis, Dallas, and elsewhere, I understand those of you who feel angry, frustrated, and frightened by what has been happening. I share your feelings, and I also harbor hope.
As an academic community, we have a responsibility to one another to seek resolution of conflict through open dialogue, weighing of different solutions, and thoughtful implementation. As a community, we seek compassionate and humane methods to address intense conflict such that we can build positive relationships and ultimately improve our world.
At IUPUI we are unwavering in our commitment to ensuring a welcoming, safe, civil, and inclusive environment for faculty, staff, and students.
As we work together as a community towards strength and healing, I encourage you to reach out to others for support. We know human connection through dialogue is key in such difficult times. For additional support, students may contact IUPUI Counseling and Psychological Services. Full-time academic and staff employees, medical residents, and eligible graduate appointees and fellowship recipients can access the IU Employee Assistance Program, which offers confidential counseling services at no cost to employees.
Your health, wellbeing, and safety are of utmost importance. Thank you for all that you do to strengthen our community.
Sincerely,
Nasser H. Paydar
Chancellor
