Jonathan Weidberg

In front of a record crowd of nearly 400 people, fourteen-year-old Jonathan Weidberg became the first recipient of the IUPUI Chancellor’s Medallion. Chancellor Gerald L. Bepko bestowed the award upon Mr. Weidberg at the 13th Annual Spirit of Philanthropy Celebration on April 27, 2000.

Mr. Weidberg was selected for this honor in recognition of his heroic efforts in support of his mother Wendy’s cancer treatment at the IU Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis. At age 7, after his mother was disagnosed with cancer, Mr. Weidberg started Jonathan’s Mouse Fund to raise money for the purchase of research mice needed for the treatment studies on his mother’s disease. He raised over $26,000 and drew national attention to this important issue.
