In honor of his more than 50 years of service to politics, philanthropy, business and education, John Mutz was awarded the IUPUI Chancellor’s Medallion by Chancellor Charles R. Bantz on September 10, 2009, during the IUPUI Board of Advisors Reception at Cedar Crest.
Mr. Mutz’s political career in Indiana included service as state representative, senator, and two terms as lieutenant governor. He also held positions in the private sector, serving as president of Lilly Endowment, Inc., president of PSI Energy; and chair of Lumina Foundation for Education Board.
One of Mr. Mutz’s greatest contributions to the city of Indianapolis was the development of White River State Park. The result of this endeavor was the creation of a multi-faceted destination that includes an expanded IUPUI, the Eiteljorg Museum, the Indiana State Museum, and NCAA headquarters, among other venues and organizations. Mr. Mutz also served on many civic and corporate boards and has written a column for the Indianapolis Business Journal.
