Indiana University Police Department at IUPUI Captain Kevin Figg was presented with an IUPUI Chancellor’s Medallion by Chancellor Nasser H. Paydar on January 29, 2021, in recognition of his decades of service to community policing, including his dedication to the IUPUI campus through his work for the IU Police Department as well as his extensive expertise in use-of-force and de-escalation strategies, investigations, behavioral consultation, and student conduct.
A dedicated public servant since 1981, Captain Figg began his law enforcement career with the Terre Haute, Indiana Police Department before joining the IUPD at IUPUI in 1988. Over the course of his 40-year career, Figg has served in a variety of roles, including a uniform patrol officer, field training officer, and front-line patrol supervisor.
During his time in law enforcement, Figg has trained hundreds of police officers in the use of firearms, defensive tactics, de-escalation strategies, and police use of force. He also serves on the IUPUI Behavioral Consultation Team and is a police department liaison for issues involving student conduct.
Figg has also served the campus community through his work on campus committees over the years to help ensure the safety of our students, faculty, and staff, including the IUPUI Emergency Preparedness Committee, the IUPD Policy Development Committee, and the IUPUI Infectious Disease Committee.
Honored for his distinguished career, Figg is the recipient of an official Letter of Commendation from President Ronald Reagan, the Law Enforcement Certificate of Appreciation from the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, the IUPD Meritorious Service Award, and the IUPUI Division of Student Life Community Builder Award.
