Biography
Angela Smith Jones serves as the associate vice president for state relations at Indiana University. In this role, Smith Jones is the university's primary liaison with the legislative and executive branches of Indiana government, including the Indiana General Assembly, the Office of the Governor, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, and other relevant units.
Prior to her current role, Smith Jones served as the vice president of diversity and inclusion at Health & Hospital Corporation, overseeing the strategic implementation of diversity, equity, and inclusion across all entities of Health & Hospital.
Before that she was sworn in as Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett’s first deputy mayor for economic development. During her tenure, Smith Jones oversaw Develop Indy, the city’s economic development organization; Employ Indy, the city’s workforce improvement board; and the Office of Minority and Women Business Development. She also worked closely with the Office of International and Latino Affairs. Leading these organizations, Smith Jones developed strategies to retain and expand businesses, attract new companies, grow jobs, and build a strong workforce pipeline for the city of Indianapolis. She also ensured that entrepreneurs of diverse backgrounds received support and were given opportunities.
