Joe Slash is the former president and chief executive officer of The Indianapolis Urban League (IUL) from 2002 until 2015. Mr. Slash, a Certified Public Accountant was formerly Vice President of Community & Corporate Effectiveness for the Indianapolis Power & Light Company. Prior to joining IPL, he was the first African American Deputy Mayor of the City of Indianapolis in the Hudnut administration, where he served three terms.
Mr. Slash has been a prominent community leader for decades. He is a member of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Policy Department Merit Board, the board of directors of the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee and the board of directors of the Center for Leadership Development.
He has been honored as a Sagamore of the Wabash, the Jaycees’ Outstanding Young Man of the Year and listed in Who’s Who in Black America.
Mr. Slash graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Marshall University.
