John Griffin is the president and attorney for the Central Indiana Building and Construction Trades Council. He represents the 18 construction unions in Marion County and the seven surrounding counties. He advises on public works projects and governmental affairs.
Griffin served as commissioner of labor, appointed by Governor Frank O’Bannon, from 1999 to January 2003. He was appointed by Governor Joe Kernan in 2004 to establish the Office of International Trade Compliance in the Indiana Department of Commerce. He served as a state trustee on the Ivy Tech Community College board from 2004 to 2007 and was a member of the Indianapolis Private Industry Council from 2006 to 2008. He also served as a member of the Indiana Recount Commission from 2004 to 2006.
Griffin holds a B.S., cum laude, from Purdue University at IUPUI and a J.D. from the Indiana University School of Law. He is licensed to practice before state and federal courts in Indiana. He is also licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Prior to college, Mr. Griffin served a four-year apprenticeship as a union electrician and worked 10 years in the construction industry.
