Dr. Alfonso J. Alanís is the majority founding partner, chief executive officer, and chairman of the board of Anaclim, LLC, a “niche” contract research organization (CRO) located in Indianapolis, where he is responsible for the overall strategy and performance of the company.
Prior to working at Anaclim, Alanís was an executive at Eli Lilly and Company, where he served in different functions for 21 years, including seven years as the chief medical officer and vice president of global clinical research. He retired from Lilly in December 2008.
A U.S. citizen, Alanís was born in Mexico City, where he attended medical school, graduating magna cum laude from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He obtained his internal medicine, infectious disease and clinical microbiology training at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
Alanís is a diplomat of American Board of Internal Medicine and the Mexican Council of Internal Medicine. During his career he has been the recipient of several academic and research awards and honors as well as a number of licenses and certifications. He has authored several scientific publications and book chapters in peer-reviewed medical journals and medical textbooks.
He is an active member of numerous professional societies, including the American College of Physicians (ACP) and the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). He also is a board member for numerous educational, charitable, and civic groups as well as for two academic life sciences organizations.
Alanís lives in Zionsville, Indiana, with his wife, Maria del Carmen, and the youngest of his four sons.
